Keep it free for everyone

A lost ID card costs weeks of someone's life. Giving it back should cost them nothing.

Find-It CM charges no one — not the finder, not the owner, not a franc. Donations are the only reason that holds. And they do more here than pay for servers.

What your donation does

Three things, and only one of them is infrastructure

This is not a hosting bill with a story attached. Two of the three ways donations get spent put money directly between two Cameroonians so an item moves.

Directly to a person

It pays the thank-you somebody cannot afford

On this platform an owner may offer a finder a voluntary thank-you — anywhere from 1 000 to 100 000 XAF. For a student, a trader in a bad month, a mother counting coins until Friday, that is exactly where a recovery stops: the finder is willing, the owner has already proved the item is theirs, and it ends there over money neither of them has. We close that gap ourselves, by mobile money, case by case. Not a metaphor for overheads — an actual transfer, so an actual person gets their papers back.

Builds the supply

It rewards the finders who make any of this possible

Nothing is ever recovered until somebody posts. And posting costs a finder real things: their time, their data bundle, the trouble of photographing something that is not theirs and then answering questions about it. Most people will do that once out of decency. We want the ones who do it again and again, and we intend to thank them for it — because the finders are the scarce half of this, and no amount of design fixes an empty board.

It puts people behind the service, not just servers

Claims stall. Someone goes quiet holding a stranger's wallet. A drop-off point closes early. A quiz was written so badly that the real owner failed it. Every one of those needs a person, not a feature. Donations are how this stops being one developer answering messages late at night and becomes a small team whose actual job it is.

Why it is free

Charge for this and you lose the people it was built for

Picture who loses a CNI, a school certificate, a phone holding every number they have. Then picture who could spare 2 000 XAF to get it back before payday. They are not the same person — and a platform that only works for the second one is not solving anything.

The cost of a lost CNI was never the card

It is the day of work missed, the queue, the fee, the weeks of being unable to prove who you are. Someone already paying that should not also have to buy their way past a paywall to reach the stranger holding it.

A fee would stop the finders too

Nobody who picks up a stranger's wallet is going to pay for the privilege of handing it back. Charge either side and the honest half of this simply stops happening.

Free is what keeps us honest

Because we take nothing from a recovery, we have no reason to push anyone toward one. No promoted listings. No priority claims. No commercial reason to weaken a privacy gate to close a deal. Take a cut and every one of those becomes tempting.

What it costs to run

Almost nothing — right up until it works

Today this runs on free tiers and costs close to zero. That is not a boast; it is the problem. Every real cost below arrives at exactly the moment the platform starts mattering to more people.

A domain name

Due whether one person uses the site or a hundred thousand do.

Room above the free ceilings

Database, image storage and hosting are free up to a limit. More items posted means more photos stored and more pages served. Success is the thing that breaks this.

Messages that actually arrive

Email is the weak link. A Cameroonian checks WhatsApp far more often than a mailbox, and a claim update nobody reads is a recovery that quietly dies. WhatsApp and SMS cost money per message — it is the single biggest reliability upgrade this platform could buy.

No target figures on this page. Not one — because today they would be estimates dressed as facts, and this is the last place that belongs. Once there is a full year of real spending to report, it will be published here in full.

How to give

Mobile money. Whatever you can, whenever you can.

One franc or fifty thousand, once or occasionally. No subscription, no tiers, no rewards — and nothing on this platform is behind a payment, or ever will be.

Choose how you want to send it

Mobile money if you are in Cameroon. A bank transfer if you are not.

The mobile money details are not published yet. Write to us and we will send them.

After you send

Tell us it is on the way

Nothing here collects your money — you send it from your own phone or bank, and we have no way of knowing it arrived until we match it by hand. Telling us takes fifteen seconds and it is the difference between a transfer we can attribute and one that sits unexplained in an account.

XAF

A donor page is coming. Leave this unticked and your gift stays anonymous — that is the default, and nothing changes if you skip it.

A declaration is not a confirmation. Every entry stays unverified until we have matched it against the account, and no total or donor page on this site ever counts an unverified one.

We will never ask you for money to release an item

Not a fee. Not a deposit. Not a "release charge". Ever. Money only ever comes to us here, on this page, because you chose to open it. If anyone contacts you claiming to be Find-It CM and asks for payment to hand over your own property, that person is robbing you. Do not pay. Tell us, and we will act on it.

Report it to us

Where the money goes

Recorded, reported, and never mixed with a recovery

Find-It CM is being registered as a company, and its income is donations rather than fees — which means the money has to be handled like it matters. Every donation is logged with its date, channel and amount, so what came in and where it went can be shown rather than asserted.

  • The platform never touches money in a recovery. A thank-you moves directly between the two people involved — there is no payment integration here, so we could not take a cut if we wanted to. Donations are the only money in this system.
  • A donation buys running costs, pledges and finder rewards — never features for the donor. Nothing unlocks by paying, for anyone.
  • The record exists to be shown: to donors who ask, and to the NGOs and institutional funders this will eventually need. An organisation that cannot account for a 1 000 XAF gift has no business asking for a larger one.
  • If donations ever exceed what the platform costs, that will be said here — not quietly kept.

Other ways to help

If you cannot give money, give one of these

These are worth more than they sound, and two of them are worth more than a donation.

Post the thing in your drawer

The ID card you picked up and meant to deal with. Somewhere there is a person who has been unable to prove who they are since the day they lost it. One listing is worth more to them than any amount of money is to us.

Report a found item

Tell one person who lost something

Most people who lose something never find out this exists — they just accept it as gone. A recovery cannot happen if the owner never comes looking.

This is still a small team, so a bug you report is a bug that gets fixed, usually quickly. The page that confused you is confusing other people right now.
